VANAMAHOTSAVA 2022 AT SDM COLLEGE OF AYURVEDA, KUTHPADY, UDUPI

Day 1 - 13/09/2022

Department of Dravyaguna, herb garden committee and NSS unit of the college jointly have organised Vanmahotsava Saptaha 2022 at SDM College of Ayurveda, Kuthpady, Udupi, from 12/09/22 to 17/09/2022. Programme was inaugurated on 13/09/2022 through plantation of 25 new endangered species of medicinal plants by students and NSS volunteers. Principal Dr. Mamatha KV advised students to enrich existing garden through addition of new species as Ayurveda has reached global recognition today. SDM herbal garden has at present around 450 medicinal plant species and it is the aim of institution to increase the number of new species to 750 in future days, with diverse medicinal plants. Dr Veerkumar K Ug dean, Dr Suma Mallya, convenor herb garden, Dr Vidyalakshmi K NSS Officer, Dr. Shrikanth P, HOD Dravyaguna other faculty members were present during event.

Day 2- 15/09/2022

Plantation of 45 plants of endangered species was done on 15/09/2022 by II BAMS students. The plants like Ashoka, Vrukshamla, Bilva etc were planted in Amruta vana of the college campus. Dr. Shrikanth P, HOD, Dept of Dravyaguna Vijnana, Dr. Suma Mallya, Convenor, Herb Garden Committee, Dr. Vidyalakshmi K, NSS PO, the teaching staff namely Dr. Mohamad Faisal, Dr. Thejaswi Naik, Dr. Yogeesha Acharya, Dr. Shrinidhi Dhanya, Dr. Ravikrishna S, Dr. Arunkumar were present during the program. After the plantation, the students have cleaned the campus by picking the non biodegradable waste from the campus.

Day 3 – 17/09/2022

Plantation of the species useful for Panchakarma Department for daily treatment purpose were planted on 17/09/2022 by Ist BAMS students. Around 150 saplings of Vaasa, Paapata, Banda, Agnimantha and Nirgundi which are the basic medicinal plants required in the Panchakarma therapies carried to the patients of SDMAH Udupi daily were planted in the Rajavana, opposite side of the Rajavana, near the canteen (opposite to nagabana) etc. Dr. Shrikanth P, HOD, Dept of Dravyaguna Vijnana, Dr. Suma Mallya, Convenor, Herb Garden Committee, Dr. Vidya Ballal, Campus Maintenance Committee, Dr. Rajalaxmi M G, Campus Maintenance Committee, Mr. Nagesh C H, Hospital Manager were present on this occasion.
